Gallery of Christian-Social Personalities
Welcome to the pages of the Christian-Social Politics Foundation e.V., which sees itself as part of the worldwide Christian-social movement. Our gallery of Christian-social personalities aims to remember deceased individuals who have lived their Christian faith in the world for the world. The Christian faith demands consequences, meaning that we should strive for peace, justice, solidarity, and the preservation of creation.
The gallery includes women and men who have defended Christian values in their time and place. These individuals were not only clergy but also politicians, labor activists, and social reformers. The Catholic social teaching and Evangelical social ethics, along with church statements such as social encyclicals and position papers, inspired people spiritually and intellectually to engage for their neighbors and for a more just world. The roots of the Christian-social movement are found with figures like Adolph Kolping in Cologne and Bishop Wilhelm Emmanuel von Ketteler in Mainz, who identified the social question for their church and addressed it through words and actions.
Johann Hinrich Wichern’s call for the founding of the Inner Mission, with its comprehensive social and educational program, marked the beginning of social Protestantism.
We wish all readers many stimulating thoughts as they read the short portraits of the Christian-social personalities who contributed significantly to the growing welfare state, to Caritas and Diakonia, and to the labor unions. They all aimed to serve people and make society more humane.
The goal of the gallery is to continuously improve and expand it. If you miss a personality or discover errors, do not hesitate to let us know. We are especially happy about authors of additional biographies. You can reach us at the email address for all these matters.
We look forward to your feedback!
